Elaine Cohen is an artist living and working in Los Angeles, CA.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My artistic practice is a blend of obsession and discovery, of repetition and serendipity.

I am drawn to form and edge as the boundaries that define figure and space. The act of repeating marks, splatters or paper cuts while allowing myself to be interrupted by unexpected incidents lead my work in unexpected directions.

I intentionally embrace the meticulousness of a well-crafted shape or a delicate placement on a structured grid, only to challenge myself with purposeful imperfections like a hand-drawn circle or daring drops of paint. Each action, each stroke, is a measured step into the unknown, where accidents are transformed into opportunities.

This journey of pushing the boundaries of beauty has become an integral aspect of my artistic expression.
